Getting Involved
People can get involved in REVEAL's work in a number of ways.
For information, please contact Chris Lee at chclee@alum.mit.edu or
(617) 491-3098. Here are some things you can do:
- Write up your personal story/testimony about your
experience with the ICC, and let REVEAL make it available in the
on-line library. We only ask that you use your real
name on your story. You are free to use pseudonyms for
others in your story, provided you identify them as
such, and in rare cases we may agree to post a
pseudonymous story provided we know who you are.
- Volunteer to talk with current and former members who need some support
from people who've been through what they're going through. We ask that
people who do this first "introduce" themselves to us if we don't already
know them by writing their "bio" of their time in the movement. We'll also
ask about the reading you've done about cult recovery and the ICC, how long
you've been out, and where you are in your own recovery. This is to be sure
that you are ready to deal with the phone calls and email you will get --
those contacting you are often going through a difficult time.
- Start a support group or host an existing support
group for former members, family and friends at your home.
If you are willing to do this, let REVEAL put you into contact
with others in your area who want to form a support
group, and list your group when it is up and running.
- Help put into HTML format material on the ICC and related subjects for
the REVEAL library. If you know HTML and are willing to help prepare
material for the website, contact the REVEAL director below and give him your
"resume".
Please remember that you don't have to join REVEAL to get involved in the work
we do. You can put up a website about the ICC, for example -- you don't need
to contact REVEAL to do that. (We do hope you'll let us know about it, though,
so that we can review it for our links page.) You can start other Internet-based
services for former members, such as mailing lists and web blog. You can keep
track of the activities of the ICC in your town, or at the university close
to where you live, and share that information with the local newspaper, university's
deans, and others.
