Jerry Jones was born August 18, 1938 and grew up in St. Louis, Missouri. He received his degree in Bible from Harding University in 1960 and his masters in religious education and masters in theology from the Harding Graduate School of Religion in Memphis, Tennessee in 1963. He began teaching Bible at Harding University in 1966. In 1974, he received his doctor's degree in theology, majoring in homiletics (preaching), from the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary with a 4.00 grade point average during his two-year program.
In 1974, he became chairman of the Department of Philosophy and Religion of Harding University and remained in this position until June 1983. He became a part of the Boston Church of Christ in June 1984 and served as a Bible Talk leader, House Church leader, deacon, Zone evangelist, editor of the bulletin and was appointed to be one of the three elders in April 1986, He resigned his position in October 1986 and moved to St. Louis, Missouri. His present work consists of writing, making tapes and speaking throughout the world on a variety of subjects and occasions.
