On October 6, 1999 a long-time ICC elder in the Chicago Church of Christ was removed from his position as elder, expelled from the ICC and marked. ICC members are forbidden to communicate with or receive any information by any means from marked individuals. As the transcript below shows, the Chicago Church of Christ did not tell the members what this marking was about. A number of Chicago Church of Christ members left the ICC after attending this meeting.
When we have more information, we'll link to it. :)
In 1995, the ICC's LA Story magazine proclaimed, "As of July 1 disciples live and meet in all 50 states of the U.S." This claim was made possible by the planting of the Fargo Christian Church. However, the planting did not succeed as planned, and by 1999 the ICC had withdrawn its only church in North Dakota. This timeline tells the story.
In February 1994 the Indianapolis Church of Christ left the ICC. It is one of two churches known to have done so in the ICC's history. There are a lot of contradictory stories floating around about the events leading up to this. REVEAL is working with a number of people present during these events to post transcripts of critical meetings, sermons, and chronologies. Below is what we have so far.
In February, 2000, the Evangelist and Women's Ministry Leader of the Madrid Church of Christ, David Medrano and Natercia Alves, decided to leave the ICC. Prior to deciding to leave, they spoke with a number of former ICC leaders, including Ed Powers, Isaiah Pickett, and Kyle Degge. In the process, a number of members of the Madrid Church and other ICC affiliated churches overseen by them also left.
Below are David and Natercia's Letter on Leaving the ICC, and Kyle Degge's response to the ICC's "Discipline Letter" marking them.
In 1993 over half of the Milan Church of Christ, including a number of leaders, was disfellowshipped by the ICC. This is their story.
In early 1997 a number of leaders and members of the Nairobi Christian Church in Nairobi, Kenya left the church. Their objections to certain things going on at the church made the local newspapers, and several of them have written up their stories for REVEAL or publication elsewhere on the Internet. The evangelist of the Nairobi Christian Church, Richard Alawaye, issued a press release about their accusations in January 1998. In November 1998 Alawaye was replaced, and apparently demoted.
Here are links to that material.
A number of former members of the Sydney, Australia Church of Christ (an ICC Affiliate) allege financial improprieties and abuses of authority against the leaders of the Sydney Church of Christ. REVEAL is working with Martin Hinves, one of these former members, to get these allegations documented. Here is what we have so far:
